Takashi Kuribayashi
The white trees that appear to float in the gallery space have been molded by japanese artist Takashi Kuribayashi, from japanese larch trees in Yamagata, using Awa washi (handmade paper).
‘Wald aus wald’ paper forest have already been exhibited at Mori Art Museum di Tokyo, at Beyond Museum di Seoul, and at Hong kong Art Center, and here the artist reconfigures his ‘forest from forest’ to suit the exhibition space at the Sapporo Art Museum. The installation enables the audience to see the paper forest also from an unexpected perspective — from underneath.
