遇到一个有意思的文化现象,国外一些公司辞退员工出具的解雇通知书(notice of termination)是一张粉色纸片,也叫做 pink slip,单子上面会写出解聘的原因。
所以「他被炒鱿鱼了」就可以说「He got pink-slipped 或者 He got the pink slip」。类似的说法还可以是:
- He got laid off.
- He got sacked.
- He got dismissed/discharged.
- He has been out of work for weeks.
- He was made redundant yesterday.
比起这些,自己更想记住的是这三个比较有画面的表达:
(1)He got canned/axed. 这里面的 can 和 axe 都是作动词,都可表示“解雇、开除”,看到这个表达脑海里第一反应的就是被迫辞退,“人为刀俎,我为鱼肉”的无奈感。
(2)He got the boot. 意思也是“丢了工作”,就像是被雇主一脚踢飞出了办公室,和之前学过的 show someone the door 有着异曲同工之妙,全程不带脏字,但暗含着“滚蛋”。
(3)He got kicked to the curb. 这句话让我想起了前段时间火起来的“地摊经济”,丢了正式的工作,只有在马路牙子上做点小本生意,或者蹲在路边可怜巴巴举着一块“Looking for a job”的牌子。

后记:曾经也经历过这样一段找工作的空白期,委婉点说就是At that time I was between jobs,最后 landed a job in a rural area,给自己挖了个大坑。所以人生第一份工作要谨慎,多反思真正需要什么,擅长什么,当下可以做些什么。
