Western Sahara: NGO reveals Morocco’s violations in annual report
LONDON- Human Rights Watch (HRW), in its annual report of 2022, reported the different human rights violations committed by Morocco in occupied Western Sahara and against the refugees and asylum seekers.
The Moroccan occupying authorities “systematically prevent gathering supporting Sahrawi self-determination and obstruct the work of some local human rights groups, including by blocking their legal registration,” the report denounces.
According to the document “Nineteen Sahrawi men remained in prison after they were convicted in unfair trials in 2013 and 2017,” after dismantling their encampment by force in Gdeim Izik.
“In June, 18 of them filed a complaint against the Moroccan government with the United Nations on the arbitrary detention, alleging acts of torture and political repression,” said the source.
Concerning the negotiation process between Morocco and the Polisario Front, held under the aegis of the United Nations, HRW said that remained “stalled.”
The referendum on the self-determination wasn’t materialized, in November 2020, the Moroccan military aggression in the El-Guerguerat ended the ceasefire signed in 1991, said the source.
