Packed with speed at 58 meters per second, the super typhoon, about 192 kilometers southeast of Shenzhen at 12 p.m. today, was moving northwest at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour to approach the coast of Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It is expected to make landfall between Dapeng in Shenzhen and Hong Kong late tonight or early morning of Saturday. Or it might move past Shenzhen about 80 kilometers south of Hong Kong, according to Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.
It will bring heavy rain this afternoon and tomorrow with precipitation of 250 millimeters to 400 millimeters and the hour precipitation at 70-120 millimeters.

It entered the South China Sea last night and is moving northwest at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour to approach the coastal areas of eastern Guangdong, according to information released by the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.
The observatory upgraded the white alert for Typhoon Saola to blue at 6 a.m. today.
The typhoon might make landfall anywhere from Guangdong's Lufeng to the coastal area of Hong Kong on Friday afternoon or later, according to the observatory. It's also possible that it may not make landfall but instead pass offshore Guangdong and move southwest, it said. Shenzhen expects hot weather today, with the highest temperature reaching 33°C, and heavy rainfall from Friday to Saturday.
In response, Fairly Lake Botanical Garden in Luohu District, Dameisha Beach Park and Yunhai Park in Yantian District, and Rose Marine resort in Dapeng New Area, have been temporarily closed.
Guangzhou and Huizhou have also closed some seaside tourist sites.
A number of train routes are scheduled to be suspended in Guangdong Province starting this afternoon, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group.
The beginning of the autumn semester of middle schools and kindergartens will be postponed to next Monday in cities including Shantou, Huizhou, Jiangmen and Chaozhou in Guangdong.
Ferry services between Guangzhou's Nansha and Zhuhai and some ferry services between Guangzhou's Pazhou and Hong Kong's airport are suspended starting today.

Typhoon Saola, the ninth typhoon of this year, is moving in a northwesterly direction at a speed of 10-15 kilometers per hour, and is expected to move into the northeastern waters of the South China Sea on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
It is likely to make landfall somewhere on the coast within an area stretching from eastern Guangdong to southern Fujian during daytime on Friday, or it may move southwestward from the east coast of Guangdong, the NMC said.
Strong winds and heavy rainstorms will hit areas to the east of China's Taiwan island, northeast parts of the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait from Wednesday to Saturday. Heavy rain will lash parts of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi. Some areas are likely to experience rainstorms, the NMC said.
The China Meteorological Administration activated a Level-II emergency response on Wednesday.
Experts suggested people in the aforementioned areas should prepare for potential emergencies caused by the typhoon, and warned cruise ships and fishing boats in the affected waters to return to port for shelter.
