【叶芝《当你老了 When you are old》赏析】
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
《当你老了》
作者:威廉·巴特勒·叶芝译者:杨牧
当你老了,灰黯,沉沉欲眠,
在火炉边瞌睡,取下这本书,
慢慢读,梦回你眼睛曾经
有过的柔光,以及那深深波影;
1. grey:灰色,形容老人灰白的头发,美式英语亦作gray;
2. nodding:原意“点头”,在语境中表示“打盹”;
3. take down:动词词组,拿下,取下;
4. dream of:dream是不及物动词,跟介词of连用才能跟宾语;
5. look:该词用法很丰富,作动词表示“看”,做名词表示“样子”、“眼神”等,在句中语境表示“眼神”;
6. of:第二处of,是跟在and前半句话里动词dream之后,这里是一个并列关系;
7. how many:其后省略了people;
8. glad grace:令人愉悦的优雅姿态;
9. with love false or true:with引导方式状语,这里false or true作为后置定语修饰love,表示“或真或假的爱慕”;
10. pilgrim soul:指纯洁的心灵;
11. bending down:指“弯下身子”;
12. glowing bars:glowing指“发光的”,这里指“被炉火照亮的”;bars指“栏杆”,这里指“壁炉”周围的栏杆;
13. Murmur:低语,轻声说话;
14. fled:flee“逃走”的过去式,how love fled,爱情已然溜走;
15. pace:动词,踱步,主语是前句话中“溜走的爱情”;
16. amid:介词,在…之中。

Within an original poem, spelled out in neon lettering, the Indigenous artist Demian DinéYazhi´ hid a message in their installation at the Whitney Biennial in New York. Unknown to the show’s curators, flickering letters across the artwork’s three stanzas reveal the words: “Free Palestine.”
Titled “we must stop imagining apocalypse / genocide + we must imagine liberation,” the Diné artist’s new installation joins the works of some 70 other artists and collectives in the 81st edition of the exhibition, which surveys early-career American artists — and has often been a flashpoint for politics and protests.

There was a guy, or there wasn't lol. He was a doctor who was afraid of needles. Sometimes he was a little boy wrapped in his SpongeBob blanket. He used to insist that we should wear rings-he even wore that black ring. He used to ask me what to do, which napkin he should use. I remember once I sang him a Rachael Yamagata song, then he thanked me for introducing Racheal to him. He had thanked me for many things, he was also a gentleman, he was little jealous but he hid it very well. He was a smart guy. But obviously he wasn’t smart enough to understand he shouldn’t flirt with multiple people at once ♀️ I'm not angry at him at all.
