在這個娑婆世間修行,真的是難如登天,甚至比登天還要難。所以在修行當中,佛法有兩條大道可供我們選擇:一條是「易行道」,一條是「難行道」。
Cultivating in this Saha world is really as difficult as climbing to the sky, or even harder. Therefore, there are two ways of Buddhist practice methods to choose from. One is the Easy Way and the other is the Hard Way.
「易行道」就是藉助彌陀如來的一句佛號功德力。「難行道」就是一步一個腳印,在這個世間,三大阿僧祇劫,你要經歷過五十二個階位:十信、十住、十行、十迴向、十地,最後到等覺、妙覺。
The Easy Way is to rely on the merit of Amida Tathagata's name, while the Hard Way is to go one step at a time, in this world, for three great asamkhyas, you must go through fifty-two levels: ten Faiths, ten Dwellings, ten Practices, ten Transfers, ten Grounds, finally Equivalent Enlightenment, and Wonderful Enlightenment.
我經常聽到很多發心的菩薩跟我說,要生生世世在這個苦難的人世間行菩薩道,不願往生極樂淨土。我覺得說這話的人,不知道這個世間的水有多深,這個世間的眾生有多麼難度。在修行當中,你一不小心,就會被你的同修拉下水,被你的家人拉下水,乃至被那些眾生拉下水。真的是非常非常不容易。
I'm often told by a lot of devoted people that they want to practice the Bodhisattva path in this suffering world life after life, and they don't want to go to the Western Pureland. I don't think people who say this know how deep the water in this world is, or how difficult enlightening sentient beings in this world is. If you are not careful during your practice, you will be dragged into the water by your fellow practitioners, your family, or even any other sentient beings. It is really very, very difficult.
所以呢,我們修行,既然有方便,有善巧,那我們選擇方便,選擇彌陀如來給我們開導的這麼一個善巧的法門,讓我們到了西方極樂世界,證得「不退轉」之後,有機會永離娑婆世界的業海。在西方極樂世界成就菩提之後,我們再發心發願,慈航倒駕,再來娑婆度眾生。
So, since when we practice, there are expedient means and skillful means, we choose the expedient means, we choose the skillful method that Amida Tathagata developed for us. After getting over there and achieving the stage of non-retrogression, we then will leave the sea of karma of the Samsara world forever. After truly achieving Bodhi over there, we then may get determined to come back to this suffering world and broadly enlighten all sentient beings.
諸位同修,佛法有兩條大道,佛陀已經告訴我們,清清楚楚,明明白白。你要選擇哪一條道?路在你的腳下,就看你自己的選擇了。
